I am thinking that documents created using Word's SaveAs pdf may be converted back a bit closer to the original.

How well this works depends on how the pdfs were created. In answer to your question about opening and editing pdf documents in Word, the answer is that, since Word 2013, Word has had the ability to open and edit pdfs. It occurs to me that the Word save method may give a better result on the return to Word. I hate working with converted documents in Word so have little experience with reopening pdfs created in by Word in Word as editable documents. Normally, I would prefer the Word method because it preserves information. It would seem that Word's Save As pdf preserves the character of the headers and footers in the file created while the print method does not but simply makes it a part of the page. What happens if you use "Save As Adobe PDF" option under File? This is also an Adobe function rather than Word. So, as much as I'd like Acrobat to stop messing with the Word header/footer, I apparently have a setting somewhere in my system that allows things to work they way they should. If I reset it on a PDF that I generated from Word, it doesn't.Īnd it doesn't matter what method is used to get from Word to PDF, the end result is the same. If I reset the footer on a PDF someone else created from Word, the Word footer disappears. I understand that Acrobat basically sees the Word header/footer and the PDF header/footer as the same, so it wipes out both when it resets its own header/footer.Įxcept that I don't have this problem on my computer, as long as I generated the PDF form the Word doc. This wipes out the Word header and footer in the PDF.

If we replace page in the PDF, which isn't uncommon, we have to update the PDF footer.

The PDF includes other scanned documents, so we can't use the Word footer for this. We regularly create PDFs from Word 2016, then add a footer in the PDF. I've found a number of people questioning this but haven't found and actual answer yet so I'll try posting it here.
